Heroism at AVANTAGE7

Heroism in This War Has Many Faces

It is not only the soldiers on the front line and the volunteers who raise millions. They are also ordinary people who, in the midst of frightening events, have demonstrated an indomitable spirit.

Among them are the employees of the AVANTAGE7 gas station in the village of Myla (Kyiv region), who did not stop their work even at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

The occupiers turned the gas station into ruins, but did not break the spirit of its employees. After the de-occupation of Kyiv region, not much remained of the beloved Myla AVANTAGE7 gas station. In three months, we rebuilt the gas station, proving that even in the most difficult conditions, life goes on and work continues.

When the War Started

Since 2019, the Myla gas station has become an integral part of the life of the village and our company. According to the manager, Vladyslav Doroshenko, the team, made up mainly of local residents, quickly gained the trust of both locals and numerous travelers who chose this particular gas station to refuel their cars.

“For the village of Myla and the rest of the Kyiv region, the morning of February 24 did not seem like an ordinary morning, because we were one of the first to meet the enemy. After waking up and hearing the explosions, the first thing I did was go to my team at the gas station. We received an order from the management to save our lives and continue working, no one forced us. When I arrived at the gas station, I saw my employees continuing to work. We tried to stop the work, but our regular customers begged them to refuel, children were crying at the gas station, and explosions were heard in the background. We made a final joint decision to continue working,” says the gas station manager.

The queue at the gas station did not subside. In different states and emotions, the operators and gas station attendants bravely did their job, occasionally meeting the familiar faces of regular customers, whose eyes showed confusion and fear. At about 19:30 on February 24, the fuel ran out.

Already in the first days of the war, the logistics were damaged and fuel trucks could not reach Kyiv. Due to this and the large flow of customers on the first day of the war, the gas station ran out of fuel at the time of closure. February 25 - AVANTAGE7 gas station in the village of Myla stopped working due to a lack of fuel and goods.

After the Closure

“I've been working at this gas station since it opened, I know the regular customers and have very good relations with everyone in the team. On February 24, it was not my shift, but when I found out that the gas station was still open, I decided to come and help. Of course, my family didn't want to let me go, but I knew I would be needed here,” says Serhiy, a gas station operator.

A few days after the gas station was closed, the Russian military approached Kyiv. The gas station was directly under occupation. No one can say what was happening there and how, because it was impossible to visit the gas station. Only when the Ukrainian Armed Forces drove out the enemy and the Kyiv region became controlled by our military again, did the management manage to visit the gas station.

For the first time since February 24, 2.5 months later, Vlad and Vadym, the managers of the gas station, were able to get to the gas station.

The walls of the gas station were smashed by mortar shells, the roof was also damaged, and all the windows and glass cases were broken. Half of the fuel dispensers were damaged, and there were traces of explosions and debris everywhere. In some places, there were shell casings and shells.

Recovery and Further Work

The war has made its own adjustments to the work of the gas station. After the de-occupation, the team faced a difficult choice: to resume work or look for new opportunities. However, despite all the difficulties and destruction, a decision was made to reopen the gas station within two weeks, which was a real victory over the circumstances.

“Vladislav Mykolayovych called me and offered me to return to work. Without hesitation, I came here [to the gas station] the next day,” says operator Sergey.

“And on (date, waiting for Vlad), the first check for the purchase of fuel was issued at the Myla gas station. Of course, the gas station was not yet fully operational, as it had been before the war, but it was still selling fuel and coffee.

“The opening of the gas station was a real celebration for all of us,” says operator Bohdan, ”We were like a big family, supporting each other even in the most difficult times. And when we resumed work, we felt incredible support from our customers. Many of them stopped by just to chat and thank us. It seemed that at that moment our gas station became not just a place to refuel, but an island of peace and hope.”

Almost the entire team has returned to work. Except for 4 employees who joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The team is still in touch with them, and the company supports their families.

After a successful counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the enemy changed its tactics and began attacking the energy system. “The power outages made adjustments to our work,” says Doroshenko, ”but our team rallied and continued to work in any conditions. We realized that our work was important to many people.”

To ensure uninterrupted operation of the filling station even during power outages, generators were installed throughout the AVANTAGE7 network in November. This allowed us to fully adapt to the new conditions and continue to serve our customers.

The story of the AVANTAGE7 gas station in Myla village is just one of thousands of stories about the power of the human spirit and the ability of Ukrainians to unite in difficult times. Each of us can become a part of this story by supporting each other and working for the good of our country. The war caused widespread destruction, but it also revealed the best in people.

We are grateful to our customers who have always been with us. We thank our employees for their dedication and professionalism. And, of course, many thanks to our defenders, thanks to whom we can live and work. Together we will rebuild our country!
